What’s Happening in KidzChurch?

The short answer….. A LOT!

This past Sunday, the preschool children joined the elementary aged children for a time of singing before they headed to the blanket fort for their lesson.

The elementary aged children are learning about responsibility this month. This week we learned to be responsible with our words. Using cotton swabs and straws (shooting the swab through the straw), we learned that words are like darts… once they are said (shot out), they cannot be returned and they can be hurtful, or helpful. We need to be responsible with our words.

There are several ways for you to see what your child is learning in elementary KidzChurch. There’s even an app for that!!!! If you’re interested in the app, then go to your app store and search for ParentCue. I’ll be sharing other ways in the near future as we progress with this new strategy.

Opportunities to Serve…

Children’s ministry is always on the move, whether it is setting up the blanket fort for Lil’ K, or resetting the Worship Center for Sunday mornings, there is always movement, always something going on. With all of this movement and plans for the summer, there are several opportunities to serve

Opportunities to serve include:

An administrative person for Awana to handle check-in/out for the children, input information in the database through the night and assist the commander. Even though there are only a few weeks left in Awana this year, it is a great time to learn to prepare for next year.

Small Group leaders for KidzChurch – with our new style “family service” being planned and KidzChurch being “tweaked”, I’m looking for people to lead small groups on Sunday mornings with our children. This will be a commitment on your part and we’d be seeking people so you can attend the worship service upstairs at times.

KidzSummer workers for the week long “blitz” and the weekly activity.

These are some of the ways to serve. I see God doing great things, and He uses people to do them. Please join us and be a part of what God is doing in children’s ministry at Hanover Fellowship.

Please contact me (Pastor Bill), if you are interested in being a apart.

KidzSummer

As I mentioned yesterday, I am not a “big” VBS fan. I don’t want to do something because that’s traditionally what churches are supposed to do. I want to do something that will effective and if the VBS is effective, then I have no problem holding them. We don’t need a VBS to disciple our children, they have a number of options in the area for that and then that church can talk about how they are reaching the community when our children attend and we can use our resources more effectively.

This summer we will be trying to reach the community by using a 2-part approach:

One will be the week long intense program traditionally known as VBS. We will be using the Sonrise National Park material. This was selected in part because our Discovery Woods goes nicely with the theme. But more importantly…

Two, we will have a weekly program called Summit Seekers that dove-tails off of the Sonrise National Park theme. We will encourage the children to attend one night each week for Summit Seekers which prayerfully will lead into them attending the weekly activities when they begin in the fall.

Tie this into what is being planned for a new type of family service (I’ll be sharing more about that soon) and I believe we will begin to reach many families in the area.

Do you believe that we can have 60 children attending during the summer? (I do) If we do, are we ready to minister to them effectively? What if only 25% or 15 of those children and their families began attending activities in the fall, are we ready to handle that growth?

For this to be effective, we need people to step up and be involved, ready to accept new families and growth. Are you willing to serve this summer? Are you ready to be a part of what I believe God will do this summer and into the fall?

There are many opportunities to serve. If you are interested in serving this summer, please contact Pastor Bill.

Why are the Wristbands Orange?

Orange has become my favorite color! There is a strategy in ministry that is called Orange. Briefly, it takes the light of the church (yellow) and the love of the family (red) and brings them together to make orange.

In January 2005, I attended a  conference held by Awana about children’s ministry. All through that conference I sat there saying “YES” I’ve been saying that for years! The problem with the conference…. it was a vision conference and there was no substantive plan to implement, just an idea, a vision.

Since that time, I’ve looked and watched as others talked, but struggled implementing it. At Hanover Fellowship, we have always emphasized strong families, but I believe that there is more we can do and in the next few days, and posts, I will share some of that and begin to share what is planned for the summer.

So for now, when you see the orange wristbands, let it be a reminder that I want to bring the church and family together to disciple the children to know, love and serve Jesus. Please be a part, and allow us to partner with you.

If you want more info, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
